I’m delighted to announced that T+A’s flagship HV Series is making its debut at Audio Therapy very soon with the PA 3100 HV Integrated Amplifier, further HV products will be added in due course but the PA3100 seemed like the obvious launch pad for this superb range of products.
All T+A HV amplifier stages run at high voltages, hence the name and T+A have been totally uncompromising in their approach to its design and evolution, the first HV products were launched into the marketplace 10 years now and the current line up is both sonically and technically incredibly strong, build quality is first rate with much of the casework machined from 10mm thick aluminium, the attention to detail and the fit and finish is absolutely first rate.
The PA 3100 offers 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 500 watts into 4ohms and it provides vice like control and grip over almost any loudspeaker in existence. With 6 pairs of RCA and XLR inputs connectivity should never be an issue either, there is a tape loop and also pre-outs (again both RCA and XLR) and 2 sets of loudspeakers outputs. There is also a dedicated connection to add the PS 3000 HV Power Supply Unit which further enhances performance by taking over the powering of the output stages (the PA 3100 simply powers the input stages when the power supply is connected)
In presentation terms the PA 3100 is an incredibly clean and linear amplifier with a wonderful sense of engagement and rightness over the music. It has a slightly different overall character to Vitus (at £16900 the PA 3100 sits right between the RI-101 mk2 and the SIA-025). Which is is best is an impossible question to answer as it depends on the combination of the overall system in use, the room and the of course the preferences of the listener, in many ways they compliment each other very well and there is definitely space for them both to coexist!
I can certainly see this amplifier going down very nicely in a wide variety of systems, watch this space! My demo unit should be installed at some point shortly after the Munich show, please get in touch for more information.
