Entreq Speaker Cables
Entreq Speaker Cables
Over the past few years Entreq speaker cables (and interconnects) have overwhelmingly become the most popular choice of cables here at Audio Therapy.
At all levels of their range they perform to an exceptionally high standard and have taken many by surprise. At a cursory glance to many they may look complicated, even bewildering with ground boxes and ground cables and many people dismiss them out of hand as a result. But, for those who take the time to understand what Entreq is about and importantly spending some time with cables in their system it almost always results in a very happy customer.
Entreq signal cables can elevate system performance to a whole new level, to a place many customers thought not possible from ‘merely cables’, Entreq’s principle of extraneous noise removal is key to their ability and performance.
The range of Entreq speaker cable follows the same hierarchy as the interconnects, it starts with the entry level Hexa range, then Primer Pro, from there it goes to Primer Infinity, then Argo and Triton followed by the flagship Olympus Infinity.
At the end of 2021 Entreq discontinued their Infinity cables with Discover, Konstantin, Challenger and Apollo becoming end of life, these 4 cables were replaced with Primer Infinity, Argo and Triton.
Discover was replaced by Primer Infinity
Konstantin was replaced by Argo
Challenger & Apollo were replaced by Triton.
The hugely impressive Olympus remains Entreq’s flagship range of cables. Primer Pro was the entry level range of cables but a new range called Hexa was launched in the summer of the 2023, this slots in below Primer Pro, it is a new design and is the first Entreq cable which does not require a ground box to work and it offers excellent value for money.
Primer Pro, Primer Infinity, Argo and Triton all come with hard wired ground cables and a ground box included in the price. Primer Pro and Primer Infinity come with a Primer Box, Argo comes with a Silver Minimus Infinity and Triton comes with an Olympus Ten Tungsten. With each of these cables everything required to get up and running comes included in the price.
The flagship Olympus range comes with hard wired ground cables, but without a ground box, allowing the selection of the most suitable box for the system in question.
Hexa, Argo and Triton start at 2.2m pairs, longer lengths are available in 0.55m increments.
Primer Pro and Primer Infinity Speaker cables both start at a 2.5m pair and increase in 0.6m increments.
Hexa is priced at £480 for a 2.2m length which equates to just over £100 per metre, which is a new price point for Entreq, as mentioned above this new entry level cable has been redesigned so no ground box is required to help keep the pricing down. Longer lengths are no issue, additional stereo increments of 1.1m are £80, so a 3.3m pair is £560.00.
Hexa performance is very natural and organic, too many cables from well known cable brands can sound strident and artificially detailed which many find initially impressive but after extended listening many become tiring and fatiguing, it’s a constant theme I hear from customers. All Entreq speaker cables excel at being even handed and incredibly well balanced and Hexa is a great starting point.
Primer Pro is the next step up the Entreq range, a 2.5m pair is £1100 including a Primer Ground Box, longer lengths are priced at £110 per additional 1.1m. The addition of the ground box results in a quieter cable, the grounding arrangement has a simple function – to remove noise and pollutants present in the signal path and drain them to the ground box to allow the signal to be free from noise.
Step up to Primer Infinity and the price jumps up to £1600 for a 2.5m pair, it comes with the same Primer Ground Box. Primer Infinity gives you more of the same natural performance.
The next cable up the range is Argo and the jump from Primer Pro and Primer Infinity is a marked step. Argo is priced at £3600 for a 2.2m pair and it comes included with a Silver Minimus Infinity Ground Box (£600 to buy separately). This ground box is a larger box compared to the Primer Box and as a result it can lower the noise floor further and it is quite obvious when you experience it.
The Triton is the next step and this cable replaces what was Challenger and Apollo from the old series, it has some big boots to fill as these 2 models were very good and very popular but as with the Argo the Triton more than rises to the occasion, it sounds like Argo but with simply more of everything and then some.
The Triton is £7200 for a 2.2 metre pair, an Olympus Ten Tungsten Ground Box is included (£1400 to buy separately). Triton is double the price of Argo and is only likely to be used is bigger more serious systems. When used on something like a Vitus RI-101 mk2, an SIA-025 mk2 or a T+A PA 3100 the Triton delivers a component level of upgrade. Many people even with systems of this calibre will happily spend this of money and more on a component upgrade, but will be very reluctant to make the same level of investment on speaker cable – but, what Triton can bring to the table is phenomenal and it shows up how much so many other loudspeaker cables hold things back or they simply push the sound in a particular direction to colour it one way or the other.
