Entreq Tellus 3 Tungsten Ground Box

Entreq’s newest ground box, the Tellus 3 Tungsten is now on demonstration here at Audio Therapy.

It has made a great first impression with customers and we’ve really hit the ground running with it with a number of sales in the first 3 weeks on having one here.

The Tellus 3 Tungsten is a tri-cell ground box, it contains 3 independent ground posts, 2 of which are equivalent to the new Silver Minimus Tungsten, the 3rd post is equivalent to an Olympus Ten Tungsten, this gives the Tellus 3 Tungsten huge flexibility and it offers numerous options as to how you could use one in a system.

Over recent years one of the most popular uses of Entreq is taking a pair of matching ground boxes and using them to to connect to the negative loudspeaker terminals of an amplifier. With the Tellus 3 this would use the 2 Silver Minimus Tungsten posts.  This connection removes noise and pollutants which are constantly being cycled and amplified between the loudspeaker and the amplifier on the negative conductor.

This noise is drained to the ground boxes and its removal brings a quite obvious improvement to the performance of the system, more so than most people anticipate. Negative loudspeaker terminal grounding is one of the most effective Entreq demonstrations to show off what they are about as a brand, the noise removal and the subsequent benefits can be heard with all levels of amplifier.

The third post on the Tellus 3 Tungsten can be used elsewhere in the system, there is usually several options to where you can attack depending on what components are in your system, we could connect to a spare connection on a DAC, CD player, network streamer, router, network switch, phono stage. This post is equivalent to an Olympus Ten Tungsten and is the highest performing post on the box, out of all the various Entreq ground boxes the Olympus Ten Tungsten offers the best performance relative to cost, it is incredibly effective.

The Tellus 3 is deceptively small measuring only 10 cm wide, 18 cm deep and 40 cm tall. Standing vertically it is a different shape to previous ground boxes, it has a really small footprint and won’t take up valuable rack space.

This new ground box is very wallet friendly as well, if you were to purchase the 3 ground boxes that make up the Tellus 3 they would cost £2360 (the Olympus Ten Tungsten is £1200 and the Silver Minimus Tungsten are £580 each). Entreq have simplified the Tellus 3 from a construction point of view and they have used less and simpler packaging to help keep the cost down – the result is the Tellus 3 Tungsten is £1650 which is represents superb value for money.

For those customers who have discovered Entreq over the past few years with the popular Macro Kit and Macro Twin Kit who are looking to further explore the range and upgrade this new box is a fantastic solution.

The Tellus 3 Tungsten does not come with any ground cables included in the price, Entreq have an extensive range of ground cables available with several brand new models (new for Winter 2024), at varying price and performance levels.

This means that the performance of the Tellus 3 is scaleable depending on the ground cable you choose, they start at £120 each for the Copper which is a great cost effective option, but as move up through the range of ground cables the performance does increase.

A Tellus 3 with 3 Copper Ground Cables costs £2000 and it’s great addition to any system, the level of improvement relative to the price of admission is very strong. If you have a flexible budget a Revelation or Apollo Ground Cable to use on the Olympus Ten Tungsten post would be money well spent or a great cable to upgrade to when funds permit.

All ground cables are terminated with a hook at the ground box end and choice of a hardwired connector at the component end, RCA, XLR (male and female), RJ45, USB (A and B) and Spade are available. The Tellus 3 improves system performance by lowering the noise floor, this elevates performance by increasing clarity, detail, scale and also developing the sound-stage, bringing out textures and layering in the music that were previously being masked or subdued by noise.

It makes a system quieter, offers greater refinement and it instills a sense of calmness over the music whilst at the same time improving clarity and system dynamics.

You can’t obviously hear this noise directly, but you can hear what happens to your system when you remove it, it is usually pretty obvious and going back again to the system as it was should tell you in no uncertain terms what the Entreq doing. I’ve customers using Entreq at all levels of system, generally speaking the better the system is to begin with the bigger the improvement that can be had, I must stress that although Entreq is incredibly capable, it cannot and will not make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
